SUMMARY:Zara Bagdasarian (UCB) "Solar Neutrinos with Borexino: First Evidence of CNO Fusion Cycle"
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nThe prime energy producer in the sun is the fusion of hydrogen to form\nhelium. However\, there is more than one way for this fusion to take\nplace: for stars the size of the sun or smaller\, the proton-proton (pp)\nchain reactions dominate (~99%)\, while in heavier stars\, the\ncarbon-nitrogen-oxygen (CNO) cycle is expected to play a more important\nrole. Not only these fusion reactions would not have been possible\nwithout the emission of neutrinos\, neutrinos are the only way to\ndirectly access the processes in the core of the sun. \nBorexino experiment\, located at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso\,\nwas built with a primary goal of the Be7 solar neutrinos (part of pp\nchain) detection. In more than a decade of data taking\, Borexino has not\nonly demonstrated the unprecedentedly high sensitivity towards Be7 solar\nneutrinos (<3%) but performed a comprehensive study of low-energy\nneutrinos from the complete pp-chain. After a number of developments in\nboth hardware and software\, Borexino presents the first experimental\nevidence of the up-to-now elusive CNO fusion cycle in the Sun. The\nabsence of the CNO neutrinos signal is disfavoured by the Borexino\nexperiment at 5σ. \n\n\nhttp://physics.lbl.gov/rpm/index.php/events/\n\nIf you are looking to confirm if there is an event\, due to room reservation\, please go to RPM website for a list of all scheduled talks.\n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/91782268585 \nMeeting ID: 917 8226 8585\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,91782268585# US (San Jose)\n+13462487799\,\,91782268585# US (Houston) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Germantown)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\nMeeting ID: 917 8226 8585\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/abeLb1T4q1 \nJoin by SIP\n91782268585@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (EMEA)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan)\nMeeting ID: 917 8226 8585 \n──────────
