SUMMARY:Digvijay Wadekar (New York University) "Accelerating analysis of cosmological surveys with novel analytic methods and machine learning"
DESCRIPTION:– Abstract: \n\nIn order to infer cosmological parameters from data of upcoming surveys like DESI\, we will use summary statistics such as the power spectrum. An accurate estimate of their covariance matrix is crucial for the inference analysis. The traditional process of obtaining the covariance involves thousands of expensive mock simulations. I will present a novel analytic approach to calculate the covariance which is faster by more than four orders of magnitude. I will demonstrate the validation of our analytic approach with an analysis of the BOSS DR12 data and also show that it helps reduce the systematic error budget of cosmological constraints\, thus making our approach useful for upcoming high-precision surveys like the Rubin observatory and DESI. \n \nIn the second part of my talk\, I will present machine learning methods to emulate expensive hydrodynamical simulations and make cheap and accurate synthetic catalogs\, which are needed for modeling non-linear scales in galaxy and line intensity mapping surveys.\n\n\nhttp://physics.lbl.gov/rpm/index.php/events/ \nIf you are looking to confirm if there is an event\, due to room reservation\, please go to RPM website for a list of all scheduled talks. \n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/99887141178 \nMeeting ID: 998 8714 1178\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,99887141178# US (San Jose)\n+12532158782\,\,99887141178# US (Tacoma) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington D.C)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\nMeeting ID: 998 8714 1178\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/aeqjQRsmD \nJoin by SIP\n99887141178@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan)\nMeeting ID: 998 8714 1178 \n──────────
