SUMMARY:Etienne Dreyer (Simon Fraser University) Searching for new physics using high-energy lepton pairs and some other hot topics in ATLAS
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nWhat is the nature of dark matter? What leads to the fundamental forces having such disparate strengths? Can we explain the small mass of the Higgs boson without excessive fine tuning? These outstanding questions are part of a broad motivation to continue investigating new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model (SM). Several theoretical solutions propose an extended gauge symmetry group beyond the SM\, and hence predict the existence of additional massive gauge bosons. I will discuss the latest search for a new neutral boson producing the particularly clean signature of two high energy leptons in the ATLAS detector. \nIn the second part of the talk I will share my ambitions for ongoing and future research in machine learning applications to particle physics\, testing the SM in strategic connections to the Higgs boson\, and work on the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) upgrade. \nhttp://physics.lbl.gov/rpm/index.php/events/ \nIf you are looking to confirm if there is an event\, due to room reservation\, please go to RPM website for a list of all scheduled talks. \n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/93348407663 \nMeeting ID: 933 4840 7663\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,93348407663# US (San Jose)\n+13462487799\,\,93348407663# US (Houston) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington D.C)\nMeeting ID: 933 4840 7663\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/ac8IBQ41t0 \nJoin by SIP\n93348407663@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan)\nMeeting ID: 933 4840 7663 \n──────────
