SUMMARY:SPECIAL RPM-Berkeley Cosmology Seminar | Noah Weaverdyck (University of Michigan) "Controlling Systematics in Large-Scale Structure Surveys"
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nLarge-scale structure (LSS) surveys have exploded in size over the last few decades\, cataloguing the locations and shapes of hundreds of millions of galaxies. The unprecedented precision enabled by such datasets puts extraordinary demands on the control of systematic errors. In this talk\, I will discuss how extracting information from LSS surveys is complicated by systematics that enter the survey selection function\, outline several approaches to address these systematics\, and highlight important lessons for upcoming surveys.\n\n\n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.Join Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/91399869562 \nMeeting ID: 913 9986 9562\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,91399869562# US (San Jose)\n+12532158782\,\,91399869562# US (Tacoma) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington D.C)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\nMeeting ID: 913 9986 9562\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/akhID8uDJ \nJoin by SIP\n91399869562@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan)\nMeeting ID: 913 9986 9562 \n──────────

SUMMARY:Vinicius Mikuni (University of Zurich) "Machine learning as a tool for Standard Model measurements."
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nThe Standard Model of particle physics described the interactions between the elementary particles that compose our universe. To study these interactions\, protons collide at very high energies at the Large Hadron Collider\, generating hundreds of particles through every bunch crossing. In this talk\, I will present two measurements that probe different aspects of the Standard Model: the determination of the ttbb and bbH(bb) cross sections. I will show the challenges faced during data analysis and how modern machine learning methods can be used to improve the precision of these measurements.\n\n \n\nhttp://physics.lbl.gov/rpm/index.php/events/ \nIf you are looking to confirm if there is an event\, due to room reservation\, please go to RPM website for a list of all scheduled talks.\n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/95906405235 \nMeeting ID: 959 0640 5235\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,95906405235# US (San Jose)\n+13462487799\,\,95906405235# US (Houston) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Germantown)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\nMeeting ID: 959 0640 5235\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/a9dnGtb5T \nJoin by SIP\n95906405235@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (EMEA)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan)\nMeeting ID: 959 0640 5235 \n──────────
