SUMMARY:Miao HU (MIT) “Vector Boson Scattering in the Post-Higgs-Boson-Discovery Era”
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:
\nThe observation of a Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV confirmed the nature of the electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) predicted by the standard model of particle physics\, establishing that the W and Z gauge bosons acquire their mass via the Higgs mechanism. However\, the discovered Higgs boson might not be the lone player responsible for EWSB. Further insights into the Higgs and the gauge bosons mutual- and self-couplings can be obtained from measurements of vector boson scattering (VBS) processes. \nIn this talk\, I will present the study of same-sign WW\, WZ\, and ZZ boson pair productions in association with two jets with data collected by the CMS detector. The effort led to the most precise measurement of the EW same-sign WW cross section to date and the first experimental observation of the EW WZ production. It also formed the basis for the first measurements of the polarized VBS. Interpretations beyond the standard model\, including the constraints on the structure of quartic vector boson interactions in the framework of effective field theory\, will also be discussed. \n\n\n\nhttp://physics.lbl.gov/rpm/index.php/events/ \nIf you are looking to confirm if there is an event\, due to room reservation\, please go to RPM website for a list of all scheduled talks.\n──────────\nTroy Cortez is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/98462347467?pwd=RjB6dkJPUUpkdnZQd1E5Y0dlcDdaQT09 \nMeeting ID: 984 6234 7467\nPasscode: 652418\nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,98462347467#\,\,\,\,*652418# US (San Jose)\n+13462487799\,\,98462347467#\,\,\,\,*652418# US (Houston) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\nMeeting ID: 984 6234 7467\nPasscode: 652418\nFind your local number: https://lbnl.zoom.us/u/acEKgxLvBN \nJoin by SIP\n98462347467@zoomcrc.com \nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia Sydney)\n103.122.167.55 (Australia Melbourne)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada Toronto)\n65.39.152.160 (Canada Vancouver)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan Tokyo)\n149.137.24.110 (Japan Osaka)\nMeeting ID: 984 6234 7467\nPasscode: 652418 \n──────────
