DESCRIPTION:Research Progress Meeting \nDate: March 26\, 2024 \nTime: 4:00- 5:00 pm  \nLocation: Sessler Conference Room- 50A-5132 [In-Person and HYBRID]  \nSpeaker: Raphael Flauger (UC San Diego) \nTitle: Deciphering the Beginning \nAbstract: \nThe cosmic microwave background (CMB) contains a wealth of information about cosmology as well as high-energy physics. It tells us about the composition and geometry of the universe\, the properties of neutrinos\, dark matter\, and even the conditions in our universe long before the cosmic microwave background was emitted. After a brief introduction\, I will discuss what we may hope to learn about the very early universe from upcoming CMB experiments that search for the imprint of primordial gravitational waves. One of the key challenges of this endeavor is the polarized emission from our galaxy.
