SUMMARY:Special RPM: Academic Career Panel
DESCRIPTION:Special Research Progress Meeting – note special time and location. \nDate: October 1\, 2026 \nTime: 3:00- 5:00 pm \nLocation: Building 50 Auditorium (hybrid)   \nPanelists:\nTBA\n\nTitle: Academic Career Panel\nSummary: The Academic Career Panel will focus on the faculty job application and interview process. The event is especially geared toward postdocs preparing to apply for national lab or university faculty positions\, but everyone is welcome to attend. Panelists will include LBNL senior scientists and faculty members from UC Berkeley and neighboring universities\, who will share their experiences and answer questions about pursuing academic careers. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions about any aspect of the academic job process. \nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/98854322464?pwd=K2tKUm1VZjRlV1J5RHE3cXdHQzRxdz09 \nMeeting ID: 988 5432 2464\n\nPasscode: 142239

SUMMARY:Speaker: Asher Berlin (Fermilab) - Title: Heterodyne Detection of Axion Dark Matter with Superconducting Cavities
DESCRIPTION:Research Progress Meeting \nDate: October 15\, 2026 \nTime: 4:00- 5:00 pm \nLocation: Sessler Conference Room- 50A-5132 (Hybrid)   \nSpeaker: Asher Berlin (Fermilab) \nTitle: Heterodyne Detection of Axion Dark Matter with Superconducting Cavities \nAbstract: Detecting ultralight axion dark matter is a major goal of next generation direct detection experiments. I will discuss ongoing theoretical and experimental developments aimed at detecting axions with mass well below the micro-eV scale\, corresponding to Compton wavelengths much larger than the typical size of tabletop experiments. The approach relies on axion-induced transitions between two nearly degenerate resonant modes of a single superconducting radio-frequency cavity. Compared to conventional searches employing static magnetic fields\, this approach parametrically enhances signal power at low axion masses\, opening up sensitivity to previously unexplored regions of parameter space. \nhttps://lbnl.zoom.us/j/98854322464?pwd=K2tKUm1VZjRlV1J5RHE3cXdHQzRxdz09 \nMeeting ID: 988 5432 2464\n\nPasscode: 142239
