Title: Search for exotic physics with long-lived particles at ATLAS
Abstract: Exotic long-lived particles (LLPs) could provide valuable insights into the nature of Dark Matter (DM) and represent a potential extension to the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. However, Large Hadron Collider (LHC) search programs may have overlooked LLPs due to their unique features, which are often dismissed as noise. Decay of LLPs outside of the interaction region gives rise to striking signatures, such as late calorimetric energy deposits, displaced vertices, and long time-of-flight. This presentation focuses on the current status and experimental challenges of searching for LLPs with the ATLAS detector, with an emphasis on innovative techniques used to improve sensitivity. Lastly, this presentation will discuss the prospects for the LLP programme at CERN in the future.
