Title: “The third-generation quarks and the Higgs boson – from the LHC to the next large-scale facility in HEP”
Abstract: In this seminar I discuss a number of selected topics in studies of the bottom and top quarks. A few recent highlights of the top quark physics program of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC are presented. These results continue to improve the precision that can be achieved at a hadron collider and expand the energy frontier beyond several TeV. An extensive search program open ups increasingly rare top quark production processes, providing access to couplings that had not been tested directly so far. To provide a broader perspective, current results are compared to the prospects of the High Luminosity phase of the LHC and of a future electron-positron collider. The seminar finalizes with a discussion of a proposal to use the interactions of the bottom (and top) quarks with the Higgs boson to test the evolution of particle masses with energy predicted by the Standard Model.
